Wrexham AFC currently use as many as six venues as the League Two side’s training ground on a rotating basis. The Red Dragons’ venues also include their Racecourse Ground stadium.

But plans are in the waters to build a purpose-built training ground as Wrexham’s Hollywood owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, continue to stamp their marks. The pair aim to create a bespoke facility, with club staff working behind the scenes to locate its possible site.

Wrexham AFC’s collection of training grounds includes Carden Park, Colliers Park, Lex, Nine Acre and the 4G pitch at Cefn Druids. While the Red Dragons have also now built a state-of-the-art performance gym at the Racecourse Ground that formally opened in February 2023.

What other facilities do Wrexham AFC have at their training ground?

Wrexham’s players now have access to a purpose-built gym with shock-absorbent flooring. It also features an artificial turfed surface, weights and various types of gym equipment. But staff still work out of offices at their stadium or two stacked Portakabin’s near the club shop.

Reynolds and McElhenney identified Wrexham’s training facilities as a key area to improve in the aftermath of their takeover. The Red Dragons’ hoped their gym, located in the Wrexham Lager Stand of the Racecourse Ground, would now see their players train like elite athletes.

Wrexham AFC used to own their training ground at Colliers Park but they sold the facilities to Wrexham Glyndwr University in 2011. The Red Dragons sought to cash in on the site in order to free up costs. While the Football Association of Wales also later took over the site in 2019.

Colliers Park cost Wrexham AFC £750k to construct when it first opened in June 1997. It is now a very different training ground after the FAW redeveloped its facilities to become the National Football Development Centre. It now features two grass pitches, plus a 3G surface.
