Wrexham’s hero was Elliot Lee as the substitute arrived late in the box to head home the winner and give his side a vital three points in the race for promotion.

Matty James had given Wrexham an early lead and starred alongside Lewis Brunt in the Wrexham player ratings.

Wrexham fans were impressed with the debuts of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez but almost had their hearts broken when Bradley Ibrahim equalised in the 89th minutes with a magnificent strike from 30 yards.

However, substitutes Ryan Longman and Elliot Lee combined for Lee to head home the winner with just seconds remaining to close the gap to Wycombe to just four points.

Parkinson needs to rotate squad in EFL Trophy clash with Port Vale

Wrexham face Port Vale next in the last-16 of the EFL Trophy and it presents Parkinson with an opportunity to rotate his squad.

James McClean looked fatigued in the win over Crawley Town and the Port Vale tie is the perfect opportunity to play the likes of Jack Marriott and Modou Faal to get minutes under their belt.

It would be no surprise to see Longman handed his full debut and there could also be some shuffling in defence with Dan Scarr in need of some game time too.

The competition does represent Wrexham’s most realistic chance of a trophy this season and so any side that Parkinson picks will want to ensure they do the job and progress to the quarter final.
