Phil Parkinson praises ‘brilliant’ Wrexham duo

Speaking to BBC Sport after the victory over Rotherham, Parkinson was delighted with the victory and the contributions of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez in particular.

Parkinson stated: “Rotherham make it difficult for you, it’s a first contacts and second balls game and you’ve got to be ready to deal with that, I thought we stuck to our task brilliantly on that side of it.

“Second half, Jay [Rodriguez] and Sam [Smith] have combined brilliantly and it’s an important goal for us.”

Rodriguez rose highest to flick on a long goal kick from Okonkwo and the ball fell into the path of Smith, who showed excellent composure to roll the ball past Phillips in the Rotherham net.

Parkinson was delighted with his team and explained: “I’m very pleased with the display. We’ve done the job well, defended long throws, corners and thoroughly deserved the win.”

Parkinson credit the ‘ugly side’ of Wrexham’s performance

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel post match, Parkinson was also full of praise for the resolve and determination his team showed in the 1-0 win.

Parkinson stated: “You’ve got to not get bored of doing the ugly side of the game and I thought we stuck to our task brilliantly in that side of it.”

Wrexham now move level on points with Wycombe in second place in League One following their 1-1 draw with Peterborough United.

Three successive clean sheets and seven points from three tricky fixtures has put the Red Dragons in a commanding position heading into another crucial game away at Reading.
