Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has singled out star striker, Paul Mullin for praise following his hattrick against Morecambe.

At the weekend, Wrexham were able to bounce back from defeat against Accrington Stanley in some style at The Racecourse.

They welcomed Morecambe who posed a threat throughout, but Phil Parkinson’s side smashed them for six.

An own goal opened the scoring which was added two by some superb goals by Jacob Mendy and James Jones late on. The star of the show was super Paul Mullin who scored a hat trick and maybe could have had more.

With five shots throughout the 90 minutes, the Welshman can count himself unlucky not to have added more to his tally. There was some suspect goalkeeping which played its part on his goals but will the Reds care… probably not, no.

Considering he was signed on a free transfer and on just £4.5k-a-week, he is one of the best signings in recent memory.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin?

Following the Morecambe win, it is safe to say that there was a great mood around the place given the great result.

Ironically the Shrimps did accrue better xG throughout the game but with the quality at the Reds’ disposal, they made their chances count.

Discussing the performance on Wrexham’s YouTube channel, Parkinson was clearly happy with the result at The Racecourse.

Discussing his Welsh striker, he said: “He was good, very good. I thought his all-round play, his link play and his runs, were really good. Really good display getting a hat-trick. It can’t be bad can it!”

Mullin was making a wide array of runs from different areas of the pitch which made it a nightmare for Morecambe. Often popping up out wide one minute then the next he was in the faces of the centre backs causing problems.

Adding to this, Parkinson spoke about his goals: “The first one I wasn’t sure if he had been awarded it or not because of the deflection, but goals are so important and key moments in games to take chances. the fourth goal really does kill the game off.

“I’m just as pleased with his all-round performance.”

With six goals scored, it is safe to say that it was a good day for the Reds. Goals came from all over the pitch but to see Mullin get involved in them is always great to see.

His start to life in League Two with Wrexham has been good and here’s to hoping this hattrick can light that fire again. When he was at Cambridge United he was the best player in the league, imagine if he can rediscover that level.
