Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has been told to unleash striking duo Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer from the off against Notts County on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Wrexham secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Sutton United thanks to Elliot Lee’s winner five minutes from time.
Phil Parkinson’s side didn’t perform particularly well against the South London strugglers, however, the grit and determination they showed right till the very end is where promotion can be won and lost in League Two.
Two players who embodied that passion and fight were strikers Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.
Mullin was benched by Parkinson as he wanted to give his star striker a well-needed rest while Palmer’s inclusion in the squad came as a surprise to some.
The 32-year-old had missed out on the matchday squad six times in his previous eight matches, and he soon showed why the Wrexham boss was wrong to dismiss his talent.
When Mullin and Palmer replaced Stephen Fletcher and Jack Marriott 18 minutes from time against Sutton, the pair changed the game for the Reds as they brought some much-needed energy and tenacity.
After running themselves into the ground, Parkinson has now been told to start the duo against Notts County on Saturday.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rob Ryan Red Podcast, journalist Nathan Salt said: “Wake up and see what you’ve got in front of you and I would hope that the weekend would see a front two of tried and trusted Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin.
“I think that is what you want to go with against Notts County and yeah, they made an impact. A lot has been said about Ollie Palmer, he came on and I thought he took his chance. He worked really really hard and deserves to start now.”
As highlighted by Salt, Palmer and Mullin are tried and trusted, they know exactly what is required of them and will run their socks off for the side.
There’s no disputing that Fletcher and Marriott are two very good strikers at this level, but the latter is still adapting to the system.
It will be interesting to see whether Parkinson is tempted to unleash the duo or stick with the same personnel.
Mullin is nailed on to start after being rested last time out while Palmer’s inclusion rests on whether the manager wants to drop both Fletcher and Marriott.
