Wrexham’s assistant manager Steve Parkin has praised one player’s performance as the Reds thrashed Crawley Town 4-1 last night.
A nerve-shredding end to the season was in store following Wrexham’s 1-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers last week.
However, Phil Parkinson‘s men have picked themselves off the canvas to produce a comeback win over Colchester United and a 4-1 thumping of Crawley.
That victory at the STōK Cae Ras means if Wrexham beat Forest Green on Saturday and MK Dons lose to Mansfield, promotion to League One will be secured.
Paul Mullin‘s goals have, unsurprisingly, dragged the Reds towards the brink of glory once more, having fired 21 goals in the fourth tier, including 11 in his last 10 appearances.
Mullin recently surpassed 100 goals in a Wrexham jersey and is comfortably the league’s inform forward following his brace last night, though he isn’t the player Steve Parkin has selected for praise.
Steve Parkin lauds Wrexham player as ‘outstanding’ in Crawley win
Wrexham’s assistant manager Steve Parkin attended to media duties following their thrashing of the Red Devils and the 58-year-old lauded Andy Cannon for his display.
The 28-year-old, who arrived from Hull City in December 2022, scored and assisted on the night but his all-round performance was magnificent.
Andy Cannon’s stats vs Crawley, as per Sofascore.
| Andy Cannon’s stats vs Crawley | Value |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Key passes | 3 |
| Ground duels (won) | 6 (5) |
| Tackles | 3 |
| Clearances | 2 |
Those levels, as depicted by the table, aren’t alien to Wrexham supporters. Cannon has produced brilliant performances week in and week out, with Parkin praising him for his ‘outstanding’ recent form.
Speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Parkin said: “Delighted for Andy Cannon, he had an outstanding game tonight and has done over the last two or three weeks”.

Andy Cannon deserves a shout for Player of the Season
Given their position towards the top of League Two, it is no surprise that Wrexham have had several outstanding performers in their ranks.
Arthur Okonkwo has been a revelation on loan from Arsenal, while Mullin’s goals have ultimately fired the Reds close to promotion.
Looking further afield, though, Cannon should be in with a shout for Player of the Season.
Unlike other players in the squad, the midfielder has continued to perform well even when Wrexham have endured a mini-slump in form.
The Englishman has flourished in an advanced role deployed by Parkinson with six goals and six assists this term.
Considering he’s only scored 17 across his career, Cannon is enjoying his best season in front of goal, which is a major reason why Wrexham’s unsung hero deserves an individual prize for his performances.
