Wrexham fans are saying the same thing about ‘incredible’ ace after Northampton Town, it’s not James McClean

Wrexham went head-to-head with Northampton Town in a League One meeting on Saturday.

Phil Parkinson and co. have suffered a dip in form over the last few weeks.

Wrexham did beat Crawley Town 2-1 but they looked some way off their best in that outing despite picking up three points.

As a result, it did not come as too much of a surprise when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Leyton Orient last weekend.

Wrexham lost 1-0 to Stevenage in their last League One fixture and headed into the current game week five points off top spot having played a game more than table-topping Birmingham City.

However, the meeting with Northampton Town was expected to prove a great chance for the Red Dragons to get their campaign back on track heading into the October international break.

Wrexham’s away record this season is a concern, but Saturday’s clash took place at the Racecourse Ground, where the home side had not lost all season.

Wrexham fans react to Jack Marriott display vs Northampton Town

The man of the day against Northampton Town was James McClean, who got on the end of a Ryan Barnett cross for the opener before setting up Jack Marriott to put Wrexham back in front after 38 minutes.

And while McClean did receive some praise for his role in the opening two goals, it was Marriott who earned the majority of the plaudits.

One fan wrote: “Jack Marriott has been incredible for Wrexham this season.”

Another added: “Marriot needs to be starting all 11 games at the moment and leave Parkinson with a major selection headache.”

A third said: “This guy had one chance during pre-season to impress in place of Mullin – boy did he take it, if we’d known he was this good we could’ve saved half a mill.”

“That’s what Jack Marriott brings to the table!!!”, another Wrexham fan wrote, while one simply commented: “Marriott always in my team.”

Another Red Dragons supporter wrote: “SUPER JACK MARRIOTT!!!!,” while a seventh added: “Scoring goals and being up this high in the league (so far) with Mullin missing for the start and not quite firing yet, is a thing of beauty! Marriott stepping up and poaching goals is exactly what we needed.”

Jack Marriott giving Phil Parkinson a big Wrexham headache

Marriott now has five goals in League One for Wrexham this season, leading their goal-scoring chart by some distance.

While it is great to see the 30-year-old firing, it does leave Parkinson with something of a selection problem.

Paul Mullin is the club’s all-time top scorer and has been key to their last two promotions. But with Marriott in the form he is in right now, it is hard to see Mullin getting back into the eleven.

The pair could, in theory, play side by side but Parkinson prefers a big-man little-man striking combo, meaning it will probably have to be Marriott and Palmer or Mullin and Palmer going forward.

Mullin does not really deserve his place on the bench right now but there is just no way Parkinson can drop Marriott.
