Wrexham have hit back at Milton Keynes Dons boss Mike Williamson as the row over Arthur Okonkwo’s fumble continues.
Phil Parkinson took his side to Stadium MK on Tuesday night, seeking a third win in a row.
James McClean sparked real hope of a victory by heading home Luke Young’s corner, only for Dan Kemp to level it up.
Both sides ended the game with 10 men and struggled to find the winner, meaning it ended in a 1-1 draw.
It could have been 2-1 to the hosts, but one controversial moment went Wrexham’s way…
Wrexham hit back at Mike Williamson
MK Dons ace Joe Tomlinson fired a shot at goal, which Wrexham stopper Arthur Okonkwo fumbled onto his own leg.
The ball was heading towards the goal but Okonkwo got back and was adjudged – just about – to have kept the ball out.
MK Dons were incensed and that’s what ultimately resulted in Dean Lexington being sent off as he made his anger known.
Boss Mike Williamson was fuming and made some rather bizarre claims about referees during Wrexham games.
Williamson made his frustration clear, suggesting that it was a ‘clear goal’ and even suggested that referees may be subconsciously favouring Wrexham because of the ‘momentum’ around the club.
We can only assume that Williamson is pointing towards Wrexham’s rise with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds at the club.
Williamson suggested that multiple clubs have now had ‘legitimate’ goals ruled out against Wrexham and seemingly believes that Parkinson and co are receiving favourable decisions.
We can’t for a second buy into anything like that and Wrexham’s official X account has now reacted.
Wrexham posted the incident whilst playing a clip of Mark Goldbridge over the top, telling MK Dons to ‘look at the white bit’.
This may only leave MK Dons fans even more frustrated, but there was a response from Specsavers as they offered Wrexham help, seemingly believing that a goal should have been awarded.
Wrexham fans won’t mind, but will certainly hope that Williamson’s comments don’t lead to referees consciously trying to give decisions against Wrexham.
