Wrexham on course to break their record attendance in the EFL Trophy tonight as they take on Newcastle’s U21’s at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham are back in action tonight a cup competition fixture. After a 15-year absence from the competition, Wrexham are back playing football in the EFL Trophy, taking on Newcastle U21’s. The game comes after a disappointing loss to Bradford in the Carabao Cup, meaning the EFL Trophy provides a genuine chance at silverware this season.

Along with Newcastle’s youngsters, the League Two side will battle Port Vale Crewe Alexandra from Group B of the Northern Section at the competition, with only two teams able to progress into the second round.
Wrexham take on Newcastle United U21s tonight (Tuesday,5th of September 2023) at 7:30 pm BST live from the Racecourse Ground.
This will be the first time Wrexham and Newcastle United U21 face each other across all competitions.
Wrexham on course to break record attendance in cup competition
The Red Dragons are well on course to break the record for their highest ever home crowd in the EFL Trophy later on.
According to The Leader, the highest Racecourse crowd in the competition so far came in 2005 when 5,814 watched eventual winners Wrexham beat Oldham 1-0 – 6-3 on aggregate – to secure their place in the final.
In a message Twitter, Wrexham said: “Around 7,000 supporters will be at our first game in this competition since 2007.”

Phil Parkinson has no new injuries but will likely rest a few players in this midweek fixture. James Mclean is unavailable due to being called up for international duty.
