Wrexham and Bristol Rovers faced off in a League One fixture on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham went into the match looking to make it seven games unbeaten in League One this season.

The Red Dragons dropped two points versus Cambridge United last time out – only the second time they have done so at home in 2024/25.

Their record away from the Racecourse Ground has not been great this season, meaning a tricky clash was expected this weekend despite Bristol Rovers starting the day 20th in the division.

Wrexham had the better chances in the opening 15 and took the lead after 17 minutes when Matty James slipped a lovely ball through to Elliot Lee.

The goalscorer’s afternoon was cut short, however, with Paul Mullin replacing Lee vs Bristol Rovers after just 36 minutes following an injury.

Bristol looked much better in the second half and eventually found an equaliser in the 86th minute when Promise Omochere capitalised on a huge mistake from Ryan Barnett.

Here’s how the players rated –

Mark Howard – 6

A quiet afternoon for the goalkeeper but dealt with the few shots and crosses he faced fairly well. Couldn’t do much about the goal.

Max Cleworth – 7

Solid with the ball at his feet, trying to begin attacks with his runs from the back. Made a few key tackles and blocks.

Eoghan O’Connell – 8

Another excellent showing from the stopper who is quickly earning the title of the most underrated player in this promotion-chasing Wrexham team.

Lewis Brunt – 6

Looked somewhat shaky at times under high pressure from the Rovers defenders but didn’t do too much wrong.

Ryan Barnett – 4

Lively showing from the wing-back, providing a decent attacking threat with his whipped crosses and runs from deep but cost Wrexham three points with his poor defending late on.

Matty James – 8

Just days after earning himself a new contract he produced a sublime through-ball to set up Elliot Lee for the opener.

Andy Cannon – 7

Controlled the tempo of the match fairly well and largely prevented Bristol Rovers from playing down the middle.

Ollie Rathbone – 7

Worked hard to chase down every loose ball and started a couple of attacks with some key passes and marauding runs.

James McClean – 7

Caught out of position on occasion but worked tirelessly to provide support at both ends of the pitch.

Elliot Lee – 7

Caused Bristol problems with his whipped corners and produced a cool finish to score his first open play goal since moving into the striker role. Forced off after 36 minutes due to injury.

Ollie Palmer – 6

A lively showing that saw him test the Bristol Rovers keeper several times and draw the ire of the home fans following a scuffle less than a minute into the match. Excellent in the air as always but did lose his head one too many times.

Substitutes

Paul Mullin – 4

After being benched once more he had a real chance to prove himself with 54 minutes on the pitch after replacing Lee but did little of note expect smash a chance over instead of cutting it back to Barnett.

George Dobson – 5

Only came on for the final six minutes of normal time, did little of note.

Steven Fletcher – 4

Didn’t have a shot during his time on the pitch and his passing wasn’t great.
