Wrexham picked up another point on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 away at fellow promotion challengers Milton Keynes Dons.

After a win on the road at Sutton United last Tuesday night, fans were left hoping for a repeat performance against MK Dons.

James McClean certainly inspired hope with a fine first-half header, stooping to head home Luke Young’s corner.

Sadly, the lead only lasted four minutes as Dan Kemp quickly brought the Dons level, adding to his tally against Wrexham this season.

Dean Lewington saw red amid a strong belief that Arthur Okonkwo had fumbled the ball over the line but Wrexham’s one-man advantage was erased when Will Boyle picked up a red card too.

That left Wrexham without a real impetus late on and it ended 1-1, with Phil Parkinson surely content with a point on the road.

With that in mind, here are some of the key talking points from Wrexham’s draw at MK Dons…

Will Boyle red a major disappointment

Defender Boyle had just been gathering some momentum again after a red card against Newport County in January.

Boyle was turning in solid displays at the back and looked to be nailing down a spot in the team again.

Some will say that Boyle was unlucky to pick up that red card but it halted Wrexham’s momentum and will now halt Boyle’s momentum too.

Boyle is now set for another suspension and a spell out of the team again, which will frustrated both the defender and Parkinson.

Sam Dalby over Ollie Palmer a surprise

Parkinson mixed up his strikeforce on Tuesday night, going with Sam Dalby and Jack Marriott in attack.

Steven Fletcher wasn’t in the squad and Paul Mullin was left on the bench, but the decision to go with Dalby raised eyebrows.

Dalby has scored just one league goal this season so to see him start ahead of Ollie Palmer was a surprise.

We know what a nuisance Palmer can be up top and seeing him forming a partnership with Marriott would have been intriguing to watch.

Parkinson went in a different direction but it didn’t really work as Dalby drew another blank in front of goal.

Arthur Okonkwo impressive again despite mishap

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been one of Wrexham’s top performers of late and that didn’t change against MK Dons.

The Arsenal loanee made saves from Alex Gilbey in the first half and then a crucial save to deny Joe Tomlinson in the final seconds.

Yes, there was a slight mishap; Okonkwo fumbled a ball and it may have gone over the line but he got away with it.

That was a minor blot on the copy book for Okonkwo though as he turned in another superb display to ensure Wrexham avoided defeat.

Luke Young impressive

George Evans and James Jones were both ruled out for this one and that meant a chance for Luke Young.

The 30-year-old was making his 250th appearance for Wrexham against MK Dons and he showed that he can be called upon whenever needed.

Young put the ball in for McClean’s goal but also produced a battling display in the middle of the park with Wrexham down a few bodies in midfield.

Young has been an incredible servant for the club he is showing that he isn’t ready to be pushed aside any time soon having put in a superb shift.

Stockport didn’t take advantage

League Two leaders Stockport County were also in action on Tuesday night, travelling to take on Gillingham.

The Hatters were looking for a response after losing 4-0 at Tranmere Rovers, but could only muster a 0-0 draw.

That means County didn’t move any further ahead of Wrexham and the gap to top spot remains only three points.

We’re coming to the stage of the season where any dropped points could be vital and after taking one point from the last three games – all whilst scoring just one goal – Stockport may be looking over their shoulders with Wrexham chasing.
