Here is how we think Wrexham will line up tonight against Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup first-round clash.
Wrexham are back in action just three days after their return to the English Football League. It was a really disappointing comeback for the Red Dragons, who received a bit of a ‘reality check‘ as they were beaten 5-3 by MK Dons.
Nevertheless, fans are still optimistic about the season ahead. Now they face a cup tie against seriously tough opposition – Wigan Athletic.
Here is how we think Phil Parkinson will line up tonight.

Wrexham Predicted XI vs Wigan
The big question is whether James Mclean will come into the side to face the club the Red Dragons actually bought him from. Our best guess is that he’ll likely be there – but on the substitutes bench to begin with.
Wrexham will rotate a lot from the last game, given the fact the two fixtures are played in quick succession – however, they’re still going to want some big names on the pitch, with Wigan being a strong League 1 side.
We expect Ben Foster to get a rest, with Mark Howard getting the nod between the sticks.
Ollie Palmer will also likely come back in, with Billy Waters preferred to him on the weekend. We expect Sam Dalby to keep his place.
It’s a tough one to predict, but we reckon this is what it’ll look like tonight.
Wrexham Predicted XI: Howard; O’Connell, Tozer, O’Connor; Forde, Hosannah, Lee, Mendy; Davies; Palmer, Dalby
Prediction
It’s going to be a tough one for Parkinson’s men. A whole league above is a monumental difference and it may show tonight. Although we’d like to remain optimistic, we sadly predict a defeat for the Red Dragons.
- Prediction: Wrexham 1 – 3 Wigan
