29-year-old now makes honest Wrexham admission after sealing January loan exit

This month has seen Wrexham loan out Billy Waters to Doncaster Rovers and he has now opened up about the move.

There are plenty of forward options at Wrexham that are providing plenty of competition for each other this season.

It has been a great season for the Reds under Phil Parkinson which sees them fighting at the top end of League Two.

What has been consistent so far this season is the starting XI as a standard side has been maintained for the majority of the campaign.

This certainly makes it difficult for players on the fringes to get involved on a frequent basis. Even with plenty of injuries, players like Callum McFazdean have been limited to very few minutes.

As a result of this, one player who was only signed recently has been sent out on loan to get back to his best.

Billy Waters leaves Wrexham on loan

Billy Waters signed for Wrexham back in March 2023. He failed to really make an impact as they were promoted from the National League. In eight appearances for the Reds since his move from Barrow, he is yet to find the net.

Compare this to his spells with previous clubs where he scored 9, 21 and 8, he has been rather disappointing so far.

In the past week, Waters moved to fellow League Two outfit, Doncaster Rovers and has spoken to Doncaster Freepress about the Reds.

On that, he said: “I just had that hunger to go out and play. I was still going in every day at Wrexham and training and I was enjoying myself training and trying to keep myself fit. But I said if the right club comes up then I’d go for it and I think Doncaster is the right club.

“I want to start scoring goals, play well and just be part of something. Hopefully, we can get shooting up that league.”

It is clear to see that his attitude was top class which is why he was kept around for so long at The Racecourse. Despite not showing his best form, he is obviously great to have around the dressing room.

It must be said that getting a move to a club in the same league as the Reds can only be beneficial for all parties.

When he returns from this loan in the summer, if he has managed to score a good amount of goals, he could become a useful squad player.
