Wrexham women won again yesterday, emerging 3-1 victors against The New Saints.

A Carra Jones brace and a Rosie Hughes strike were enough to ensure Wrexham obtained their fourth win of the season which sees them sitting comfortably in third place in the Welsh Premier Women’s League.

TNS did score late on from a free kick to grab a goal back, but this turned out to be a mere consolation in what was a really dominant Red Dragons performance.

But it’s one woman, who deservedly, will be taking the plaudits – as she reached a monumental goal milestone in the outing.

Rosie Hughes goes into the Wrexham record books

Hughes got the third goal of the game for Wrexham, which ultimately put the tie to bed. However, this one has massive connotations for her and the club.

This goal ensured that Hughes hit 100 career goals for Wrexham AFC. A feat made ever so more remarkable by the fact this is something no other current player at the Club, male or female, has been able to replicate.

She also sure did do it in style, with a fine half-volley from distance which looped over a helpless TNS keeper.

Rob McElhenney lauds Rosie Hughes

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney had a message for Hughes following the news she had broken the goalscoring record.

“Absolute boss,” McElhenney writes.

And he’d be absolutely correct. Hughes has now instated herself in Wrexham folklore as the first-ever player to reach a century of goals for the Welsh side.

The thing that makes this even more impressive? She only arrived in the summer of 2021. This makes her one of the most prolific strikers in Weslh footballing history.

She is a dream and thank the lord she plays for the Red Dragons. Here’s to 100 more?
