Former Liverpool star, Michael Owen has opened up about an opportunity to purchase Wrexham rivals, Chester FC.
Since the acquisition of Wrexham by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, interest in the club has only gone up.
This is something many owners have tried to replicate since and Owen is one of those who thought about the idea.
The former England international is a big name in the football world. Winning the Ballon d’Or in 2001, aged just 22-years old.
Across his career, he won five major trophies alongside 16 individual awards. With that being said, his career fizzled out due to injury and has become underrated by today’s generation.

What has Michael Owen said about Chester?
The cross-border derby between the Red Dragons and Chester hasn’t been contested since 2018 but bad feeling is rife.
Talking to Dazn, Owen admitted the prospect of buying a club had come to his mind.
Discussing that, he said: “I did consider buying a football club a while ago, I had a good think about it. Chester FC are my local team, it’s where I was born and where I live.”
The Seals have had a tough time financially in the past, just as Wrexham have.
On the positivity around Phil Parkinson’s side, Owen added: “Of course, you see Chester who, in my eyes, are big rivals with Wrexham FC in a nip and tuck situation.
“I live around 15 miles from Wrexham and there is an incredible buzz around the local area, and you can’t help but look over the fence and say I wish Chester had this buzz.”
The side in question for the former Newcastle man are currently 8th in National League North.
Some may say that them getting promoted up to the EFL could make it interesting. A derby against the Seals in League Two or higher could be good fun.
Michael Owen vs Reynolds and McElhenney would be an interesting prospect that’s for sure.
