Wrexham are back in League One after nearly two decades away having secured promotion on Saturday afternoon.

A win over Forest Green Rovers and a defeat for Milton Keynes Dons against Mansfield Town was the magic formula for Wrexham fans heading into the weekend.

If those two results came in, Wrexham would be up – and that is exactly what happened.

Wrexham were irresistible in the first half, racking up a 4-0 lead by the break before adding two more in the second half.

Struggling Forest Green Rovers just never really stood a chance and Wrexham coasted to a huge victory.

Mansfield thumping MK Dons 4-1 finished the job for Wrexham, securing automatic promotion with two games to spare.

Ben Tozer on Wrexham

Wrexham can now start planning for life in League One with changes both on and off the pitch likely to come.

One player whose future is up in the air is defender Ben Tozer.

The 34-year-old is out of contract this summer and could leave Wrexham on a free transfer.

Tozer has started 25 league games this season and has been named as Wrexham’s most underrated player by Phil Parkinson.

Tozer has now spoken to TalkSPORT and believes that Wrexham are set up well for further progression, but wants to see the club’s training ground ‘set in stone’.

The veteran defender accepts that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will need to spend ‘a lot of money’ to give Wrexham a quality training ground.

However, Tozer thinks that McElhenney, Reynolds and co are ‘geniuses’ and will figure out the next step for Wrexham’s training ground.

“I think the big question is the infrastructure behind the club, in terms of the training ground,” said Tozer. “That’s the one big thing that needs to be set in stone. It’s hard because also that doesn’t financially give you what you put into it, it’s going to cost a lot of money to put that in place. But those guys are geniuses, so they’ll figure it out, they’ll find a way of doing it and making it work, I’m sure of that,” he added.

What have Wrexham said about the training ground?

Wrexham currently train at a number of different training grounds.

Carden Park, Colliers Park, Lex, Nine Acre and the 4G pitch at Cefn Druids have all been used by Wrexham in recent times.

Wrexham need a proper home for training and this subject was actually mentioned in the Mission Statement released after McElhenney and Reynolds took over.

They stated a ‘hard promise’ that they would ‘invest in a permanent training facility that is worthy of an EFL club’.

Now heading into League One, Wrexham will come up against teams who have great facilities, some that have been used in the Championship or even Premier League.

It’s a big ask for Wrexham to compete at that level but this latest promotion leaves McElhenney and Reynolds under some pressure to get plans moving.
