Wrexham are currently flying high in League Two, but whilst they recently welcomed back Paul Mullin, they now face another injury issue.

Forward Ollie Palmer has had a mixed start to this season, but scored in Wrexham’s 3-0 victory over Grimsby Town. However, manager Phil Parkinson has now revealed that the striker has picked up a potential knee injury.

Speaking to The Leader, Parkinson claimed that whilst Palmer has an injury it is not a serious one and he should be able to manage it fairly easily.

“Ollie has had a bit of a problem with his knee. We have had it scanned, it is nothing serious and we will just have to monitor him during the week,” he stated.

“Ollie had a decent off-season and he has got himself fitter. He has been working on his game which is obviously important and he got his rewards at the weekend with a well-taken goal.”

Wrexham’s strong depth

Although Palmer is a key player having started nearly every game this season, Wrexham now have the depth to be able to rest him and avoid further injury.

Mullin’s return from injury has come at a good time, and the team are in great form right now. Steven Fletcher has also joined the club and could be intent contention to start against Stockport on Saturday.

Although it does seem that Palmer will likely still be available for the big game at the weekend, Parkinson may now consider resting him in light of his knee issue, as he will be keen to avoid another long-term injury.

The 31-year-old scored 16 times last season, but is yet to translate that form to League Two level, having scored just twice this campaign. Nevertheless, he is still an important player and Parkinson will be keen to have him fit and available for the rest of the season.
