Elliot Lee has dropped a ‘special’ claim about Wrexham’s dressing room following their illustrious promotion to League One.

Wrexham secured a fairytale promotion to League One with an emphatic 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers.

For the first time in their 159-year history, Phil Parkinson‘s men achieved back-to-back promotions and midfielder Elliot Lee played a huge part in that success.

Lee, who achieved promotion from League Two with Luton Town in 2018, scored his 16th goal of the season on Saturday to wrap up his latest success story.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a fine campaign in the fourth tier, as despite only netting three in his previous 22 matches, the West Ham academy graduate was named in the League Two Team of the Season.

The attacking midfielder rediscovered his touch in front of goal on Saturday and has put his excellent form down to one factor.

Elliot Lee drops ‘special’ dressing room claim at Wrexham

Lee is no stranger to working in a tight-knit dressing room, comparing Wrexham’s rise to that of Luton, where he spent five years as a player between 2017 and 2022.

During that period, he experienced a stunning rise with the Hatters, inspiring promotion to League One with 12 goals before repeating the trick a year later as Luton reached the Championship.

Despite playing 123 games for Luton before joining Wrexham in the summer of 2022, Lee believes the dressing room at the STōK Cae Ras is the best he’s ever worked with, as per Wrexham’s official website.

“I’ve said it before it is the best dressing room, I have ever been a part of and that is why we handle moments like we did today,” Lee said.

“We all felt strong going into these games where the pressure is high because we dealt with it all last year.

“That experience from last year really helped the group this year and it’s a pleasure to come into work every day.

“These are the moments that you want to saviour and enjoy with people that you experience those highs and lows with.

“It’s a special feeling to have.”

Togetherness at Wrexham inspired promotion

Everyone knows that Wrexham, accelerated by Rob McElhenney‘s and Ryan Reynolds‘ riches, have the biggest budget in League Two.

However, underneath their war chest of funds is a strong pillar of togetherness, with everyone at the club pulling in the same direction.

Several players, including Paul Mullin, Lee, Arthur Okonkwo and James McClean have played their part. Meanwhile, Luke Young, Callum McFadzean and Jordan Tunnicliffe are three of many who have rarely featured.

Despite this, the whole squad has still contributed immensely on and off the pitch, with Ben Tozer earning recognition for playing his part off the pitch.

As Wrexham look to sign a raft of new players in the summer, finding talents who fit into the dressing room in Wales will be just as important as the quality they add.
