Wrexham were definitely brought down to earth as they suffered a severe humbling against Stockport County at the weekend.

The Red Dragons were absolutely battered from start to finish by a rampant Stockport side. They found themselves 3-0 down at half-time, which only got worse in the second as they were hit for five.

The defeat ended Wrexham’s seven-match league streak without a loss and sent them down to 7th place – which is still excellent nine games into their EFL venture.

It wasn’t Wrexham’s day at all – but Stockport were on fire, in particular two players.

Olaofe and Barry picked apart Wrexham

Isaac Olaofe grabbed a 50-minute hat-trick, whilst Louie Barry registered a goal and an assist.

These two were different gravy all game – which you’d expect given their standard. Barry in particular has a remarkable background in football at such a young age. He played for Barcelona’s academy at the age of 16.

Barry joined the La Masia’s youth set-up after leaving West Brom in 2019, spending a year in Catalonia.

He is now currently on loan from Aston Villa and has been tearing it up this season in a league he is definitely levels above.

Maybe a necessary humbling for Wrexham?

We think that, ultimately, maybe this defeat could be a good thing in the long run for Wrexham.

The club have endured a terrific start to life back in the EFL, but this defeat will remind them of the fine margins within the division.

The quality is next level and you need to be on your a-game each week. Sadly, they weren’t quite there on their trip to Edgeley Park.

Wrexham will bounce back. They host Crewe Alexandra this weekend. Let’s get back to winning ways.
