Jay Rodriguez has had a prolific career in the top tiers of English football but is now competing in League One with Wrexham.

The Wrexham forward began his playing career with Burnley and as well as having two spells with the Clarets, has lined out for the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Southampton.

Jay Rodriguez has a wealth of experience that Wrexham fans are no doubt hoping he is able to utilise well at their club.

He has played the majority of his career games in the Premier League but also featured over 200 times in the Championship for various clubs.

In 258 Premier League outings, he scored 46 goals and provided 18 assists, while Rodriguez has netted six and assisted 21 in 204 Championship games.

However, up until his January transfer, the former Burnley man had zero experience in the third tier of English football.

Wrexham forward Jay Rodriguez thinks League One is quality

Wrexham were in the market for a striker during the 2025 winter window and eventually landed on Sam Smith.

However, Smith was followed through the door on the same day by Rodriguez, who signed from Burnley on an 18-month deal.

So far, the Englishman has featured in four League One games for the Red Dragons and, as per Leader Live, has been sharing his thoughts on the division and how much quality there is.

He said: “It’s full of quality. Teams make it difficult for you in different ways.

“You can see from the goals that we’ve scored and they’ve scored, it’s top quality and you get punished for a lack of concentration and likewise, you have to punish them quickly. You don’t get too many chances.

“It’s definitely a high standard and I’m learning as I’m going as well in terms of being in League One.”

Jay Rodriguez message to Wrexham fans

His assessment that League One is full of quality is justified, and Rodriguez now has first-hand experience of how tough the division can be.

He was brought in to add goals to a forward line that was struggling but is yet to get off the mark for his new club.

Amid his mixed form since joining Rodriguez sent a message to Wrexham fans recently, promising to give his all in the push for promotion.

He said: “There’s nothing more bigger than a promotion and a cup final It gets you buzzing and it gets you ready to go out there and keep working, keep improving and keep pushing forward.

“We’ve got a lot to play for and that’s the main thing. It’s something that would go down in history and I think it’s what this club deserves. It’s really important and I am really enjoying it. I’ll always continue to work to my maximum.”
