Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has taken to social media to issue a heartfelt apology to Paul Mullin after the injury during a pre-season fixture.

The Red Dragons emerged 3-1 victors against the Premier League opposition at the Snapdragon Stadium – granted, United did field a team of academy prospects.

Nevertheless, it was a dominant display from Phil Parkinson’s men. Goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden and Sam Dalby sealed victory for the North Wales club who were awarded the Snapdragon Cup.

However amongst the celebrations was a feeling of dread, with Paul Mullin having been injured and stretchered off the pitch.

Bishop apologises to Mullin

Mullin was on the ground for around 10 minutes, during which time he was given oxygen and subsequently substituted off. Wrexham confirmed that Mullin suffered a punctured lung, and will miss the start of the season.

Nathan Bishop, Manchester United’s academy goalkeeper, was the one that made the challenge. Many were annoyed with his reckless display, including Parkinson who went mad in a post-match interview.

However, Bishop has taken to socials to apologise to Mullin.

The post reads: “Just wanted to share my sincerest apologies to @PMullin7 A complete misjudgement and a genuine accident with 0 malicious intent at all! Wishing you the speediest recovery and hope to see you back scoring goals as soon as possible!”

A classy act from the young man. The keeper has since had to turn comments off this post, due to a barrage of abuse from Wrexham supporters.

This is borderline unnecessary. The 23-year-old did not intentionally hurt to hurt Mullin. Although massively frustrating as a Wrexham supporter knowing your talisman is injured, it shouldn’t be taken out on a young lad.

We wish Mullin a speedy recovery.
