Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver has shared the ‘banter’ Wrexham fans are sending his way during Tuesday night’s clash.

Wrexham fans were hoping that a strong home record would lead to a victory against Harrogate Town.

That didn’t really play out though as Wrexham struggled to break down a stubborn Harrogate side.

A 0-0 draw was incredibly frustrating as Wrexham felt like a great opportunity had gone begging.

Wrexham remain in a strong position for promotion and will be looking to get back to winning ways against Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

Simon Weaver on Wrexham ‘banter’

Harrogate are a tough nut to crack at times and they boast one of the best away records in League Two.

Tuesday’s clash was never going to be easy and Wrexham just didn’t find that moment of real quality to find a winner.

Harrogate boss Simon Weaver reacted to the draw and even commented on ‘banter’ from Wrexham fans.

Weaver suggest that Wrexham fans were calling his Harrogate team ‘mid-table rubbish’, laughing off the criticism from supporters.

“I’m proud that the club after 37 games have reached 50 points you know, because that is a milestone to reach and we wanted to get there as quickly as possible and so it’s a big step up for us,” said Weaver. “I think we’re reflecting this summer that the club has moved on and evolved this season and we’re proud of that.”

“There are always going to be bumps in the road and you know, some Wrexham fans were having a bit of banter saying ‘mid-table rubbish’ – well, yeah, for us and our size of club and where we’ve come from you know, in non-league and there’s nothing arrogant about us,” he added.

That’s just part of the game and Weaver certainly won’t be the first or last manager to cop a bit of abuse at the Racecourse.

Harrogate aren’t even that far away from the play-off spots; seven points adrift of safety with nine games to play.

It’s unlikely that they sneak in, but not completely out of the question either.

Harrogate are certainly the kind of team who can cause problems on any given day and Wrexham found that out on Tuesday.

Phil Parkinson certainly won’t be wanting to face another stubborn Harrogate side any time soon and, hopefully, we won’t be seeing them at the Racecourse again next season!
