A lot has changed since 2021. Before Hollywood took over, the mood was miserable and sour at the Racecourse.
There were funding issues, a disgruntled side and tired fans. It really didn’t have a good feeling around the club. Not only this, it seemed near impossible to get out of the National League.
Now, two years on – by gosh the dynamic is different. Wrexham are playing EFL football, they have some fantastic players, money on their side, happy fans… and a Disney+ series! It’s all because of two men – Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

How much did Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney pay for Wrexham?
The American duo have done absolute wonders for the small Welsh club. Wrexham were up for sale in 2021, and the superstar pair decided to take a punt and purchase the club.
Reynolds and McElhenney paid just £2 million ($2.5m) for Wrexham in 2021.
An absolute steal looking back, given the global status of the club right now. Granted a lot of that is down to Reynolds and McElhenney – nevertheless, they knew the major risks of buying a football club.
Why did Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buy Wrexham?
In an interview with The Athletic, Reynolds revealed just why they bought the Red Dragons.
“One day Rob sends me an email that outlines his plan to buy a lower-league club and grow it into something more resembling a global force”, says Reynolds.
“I just saw the path that he laid out, the phosphorescence in the water so to speak, and I was in.
“I just thought it was so unexpected and so interesting and I love building businesses and this is a business.”
Stupidity or brilliance? It’s a fine line. But it’s safe to say that they won’t regret a thing, they’re Wrexham til they die.
