“Huge”: £300,000 Wrexham man makes claim about Ed Sheeran, Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney

Wrexham No.9 Ollie Palmer has made a – slightly misinformed – claim about Ed Sheeran when praising Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The 31-year-old wanted to compare the American duo to other famous owners associated with clubs in the English Football League.

Palmer opted to discuss Sheeran’s involvement at Ipswich, although we aren’t quite sure he got his facts right.

What’s the story?

Well, the £300,000 Wrexham striker claimed that Sheeran has done nowhere near as much good for Ipswich in his role as “part owner” as Reynolds and McElhenney have done for the Dragons.

Speaking on Fozcast – Ben Foster’s podcast – Palmer said: “There are names as big as them that own football clubs in the lower league. Ed Sheeran, I don’t know what his share is as part owner. Has he done what these two guys (Reynolds and McElhenney) have done?

“How long’s Ed Sheeran been there? Like six years, seven years? He’s as big as Ryan and Rob right? Ed Sheeran’s huge. I’ll ask you, has Ed Sheeran done as much for Ipswich as Rob and Ryan have done? It’s not easy what they’re doing, they make it look easy.”

We agree with Palmer that Reynolds and McElhenney have done a tremendous job at the Racecourse Ground, although there’s one issue with his comments.

Ed Sheeran & Ipswich cannot be compared to Wrexham

Sheeran is not a part-owner at Ipswich, nor is he involved in the boardroom at any capacity for the club he supports.

The 32-year-old simply has a shirt sponsorship deal with the Tractor Boys.

His +–=÷x Tour could be seen on the front of Ipswich’s kits for the first time in the 2021/22 campaign, and the agreement was extended into the 2022/23 season.

While we agree with Palmer about Reynolds and McElhenney transforming Wrexham, Sheeran is not the right man to hold their achievements up against in comparison.
