New Wrexham signing George Evans has claimed that he is happy to play in a variety of positions, having made his full debut in the win over Newcastle’s under-21s last night.

Evans made his initial debut as a substitute in the victory over Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, coming on as a left-midfielder, but played as a centre-back in a back three against Newcastle, and looked very bright as he completed the 90 minutes.

He has now admitted that he is happy to play anywhere manager Phil Parkinson wants him to, and his versatility could come in particularly useful over the course of the season.

“Yeah, definitely I feel comfortable in all the positions, and in the back three, the game’s in front of me and I feel like I can open the game up there,” he stated after the win.

“I definitely feel comfortable in, all of the three positions, and wherever the manager wants me to fit in, I’ll do that.”

A shrewd signing

Evans joined on a free transfer from Millwall on transfer deadline day, and already looks to be an excellent signing.

With nearly 150 Championship appearances to his name, he is one of the more experienced players in the Wrexham squad, and his quality shone through last night as he looked excellent on the ball.

His versatility highlights his commitment to the team, that the 28-year-old is simply happy to play wherever he is needed, and he could help solidify the defence, which has now kept two clean sheets in a row since he joined.

Although it is early days, Evans could be the kind of player necessary for Wrexham to cope with the step-up to League Two, and over the course of the season, he could be a player that Parkinson looks to for leadership and to be able to cover multiple positions as the fixtures pile up.
