Ryan Reynolds has now revealed the rollercoaster of emotions he feels when it comes to owning Wrexham.
It’s been an incredible few seasons since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over at Wrexham and the two Hollywood actors have learned so much about owning a football club.
From being responsible for helping bring new players into the club to the hiring and firing of staff, the pair will have encountered several hardships since taking over in the spring of 2021, but those are significantly outnumbered by the success they’ve brought.
During their time in Wales, they’ve managed to reignite a fanbase that had lost hope while delivering promotion back to League Two for the first time since 2008.
That record-breaking campaign, in which Wrexham won the league with 111 points, has sparked hope that the club can continue their upward trajectory on and off the pitch.
When they took over, many questioned how involved McElhenney and Reynolds would be with the day-to-day running of Wrexham, but they are deeply engrossed with every facet of the club.
Reynolds has now opened up on the rollercoaster of emotions he feels.

Speaking on the Yours Mine Away Podcast, hosted by Wrexham goalkeeper Mark Howard, Reynolds gave an insight into what owning a football club is like.
He said: “It’s the greatest experience of my life. And it’s filled with all kind of weird and unexpected horrors. It’s being a part of something, everyone wants to feel connected, and feel a part of something. The fact that Rob and I were welcomed in with these unblinking and uncynical arms from the Wrexham community is something I will never forget for as long as I live. It’s part of my DNA now.”
At the time, the two Hollywood actors didn’t expect to be taken in by the Wrexham community as much as they have been.
Of course, many questioned the motives of the global superstars and there were fears that the move was a publicity stunt aimed to heighten the actors’ profiles in the UK.
It is fair to say those fears are diminished now. After being exiled from the Football League for 15 years, Wrexham fans across the globe are now revelling in the success of the club and the transformative effect the owners have had on the city.
They have set out a plan to transform Wrexham into a global force and the beginning of their journey has started as well as they could have imagined.
Following last year’s title win, Phil Parkinson’s side are now threatening to go back-to-back by securing promotion to League One.
With only six points separating them from leaders Stockport County, they are poised to throw down a serious challenge that will no doubt be filled with highs and lows between now and May.
