Arthur Okonkwo has penned an emotional message to supporters on Instagram after leaving Arsenal and there’s been a flood of responses.

Wrexham have made it clear that their priority signing this summer is landing Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old was a revelation on loan from Arsenal last term as his heroics in between the sticks helped the Reds seal promotion to League One.

Phil Parkinson previously said that signing Okonkwo would take some time while co-owner Rob McElhenney was confident of their chances when asked recently.

It’s certainly an interesting situation to keep an eye on as the Englishman is likely deciding his future currently and his recent Instagram post only adds more fuel to the fire…

Ian Wright and Wrexham stars react as Arthur Okonkwo pens goodbye message to Arsenal

It was confirmed a while back that Okonkwo would be leaving Arsenal at the end of his contract and that was officially announced in their retained/released list at the start of the month.

There’s since been a clamour to snap him up on a free transfer and a whole host of Championship and European sides have shown an interest.

In announcing his departure from the Gunners, Okonkwo penned a heartfelt message to the supporters on Instagram which many people have reacted to, including Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

Responding to his post, Wright wrote: “Thank you for your time. I hope you have all the success the hard work you put in deserves. 🙏🏾❤️,” while Paul Mullin added fuel to speculation about him signing for Wrexham by simply posting: “👀😂.”

Fellow teammate Ryan Barnett also responded, saying: “Baby Arthhhh ❤️,” while current Gunners player Albert Sambi Lokonga posted: “❤️❤️❤️.”

Arthur Okonkwo could now be joining Wrexham

After weeks of intense speculation, Okonkwo could now be finally sealing a move to Wrexham.

McElhenney’s confidence in securing a deal for the talented shot stopper, along with the timing of his Instagram post and the reply from Mullin could point to him joining the Reds permanently.

And if that is the case, what a signing he would be.

He was outstanding for Parkinson last term and there’s no doubt he will become a top goalkeeper one day, hopefully continuing his development with Wrexham.

Not only is his age and potential a huge positive, but acquiring a keeper who already knows his teammates and has an understanding with the defence is a huge bonus.

It means there’s no settling in period for him – like there was last season – as he’s familiar with the place and his surroundings.

Moreover, it would also be a huge statement of intent for the rest of their transfer window as Wrexham aim to battle at the top of League One.
