Wrexham are seeking reinforcements in the transfer market this summer and Phil Parkinson may be looking to add to his attacking options.

Parkinson already has a strikeforce of which some League One managers would be envious, never mind League Two managers.

Paul Mullin has been a goal machine since joining Wrexham, smashing 105 goals in 140 games across all competitions.

Partner in crime Ollie Palmer is an absolute nuisance for any defender with his height and physicality.

Jack Marriott has scored plenty of goals in his career and Wrexham have made an offer to bring veteran striker Steven Fletcher back for next season.

There are goals and bags of experience in those ranks but Wrexham could yet bring in one more forward this summer.

James McClean posts photo alongside Wrexham target Stephen Humphrys

Reports earlier in May suggested that Wrexham are keen on three players released by Wigan Athletic.

One is a left back in former Leeds United man Tom Pearce, but there are two forwards on the radar too in Josh Magennis and Stephen Humphrys.

The former had a spell under Parkinson at Bolton Wanderers but signing Humphrys would mean a reunion with James McClean.

McClean and Humphrys teamed up together at Wigan and won promotion together back in 2022.

Humphrys can offer versatility across the front line and McClean has now posted a throwback photo of the pair on Instagram.

Just over two years ago, Wigan sealed the League One title with a victory at Shrewsbury Town.

McClean and Humphrys posed together on the pitch having become champions together and the Wrexham ace looked back on that success by posting the photo.

Some may see that as interesting timing, given the rumours that Humphrys may well join McClean at Wrexham this summer.

If that deal does materialise, McClean would seemingly be a very happy man.

Humphrys record in League One

Former Fulham talent Humphrys knows the League One scene very, very well.

Humphrys spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town in the 2016-17 season, bagging two goals in 14 games.

Loans with Rochdale and Scunthorpe United also saw Humphrys feature regularly, recording six goals in 32 League One games.

Humphrys went on to score 10 goals in 31 League One games for Southend United as well as 11 goals in 29 League One outings for Rochdale.

Add in 27 goals in 76 League One games for Wigan Athletic and it’s clear that Humphrys has the quality and know-how to make an impact in League One for Wrexham.

Much may depend on whether Fletcher stays at Wrexham but Humphrys certainly looks like a target who can help Parkinson and co in the third tier.
