Wrexham ace James McClean has sent a message to Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds after Saturday’s win over Accrington Stanley.
Wrexham needed a win and a performance on Saturday having disappointed at Gillingham and Forest Green Rovers.
Few really expected Wrexham to absolutely destroy Accrington though, racking up a four-goal lead by half-time.
Paul Mullin rediscovered his shooting boots with a first-half hat-trick before setting up Elliot Lee for number four.
Wrexham coasted thought the second half and even saw Accrington go down to 10 men, sealing a comfortable victory.
James McClean sends message
Wrexham players will be delighted with the win but James McClean had a rather specific message after the full-time whistle.
McClean took to Instagram to state ‘stick that in the documentary too shall we?’, referring to Welcome to Wrexham.
As captured by RobRyanRed on social media, McClean added ‘lovely afternoon’s work’, celebrating a major Wrexham victory.
There are a couple of possible layers to this one, starting with the documentary series.
Co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are part of the executive producing team on the FX series and McClean is trying to make sure that they put this victory on TV for the world to see.
Then there is the tweeting from Accrington owner Andy Holt, who has taken jabs at Wrexham in the past.
Holt told McElhenney and Reynolds to ‘get that on Netflix’ after Accrington’s 2-0 win over Wrexham in November.
McClean may well love that Wrexham hit back at Accrington and Holt with a massive win and wants it featured heavily on Welcome to Wrexham.
Either way, McClean wants this victory to be featured heavily and it may well be viewed as the moment Wrexham really kick on and secure promotion – let’s hope so, anyway.
