Wrexham’s absolute thrashing of Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon has proven to be the end for boss John Coleman.

Saturday’s clash with Accrington was always going to be a big one for Wrexham.

Flat showings against Gillingham and Forest Green Rovers named up the need for a win back at the Racecourse.

What we saw was a complete obliteration of Accrington as Wrexham ran riot with a four-goal showing in the first half.

Paul Mullin’s hat-trick stole the show before Elliot Lee fired home number four before the break.

Wrexham were able to coast through the second half and claim a 4-0 win, with Lewis Shipley’s red card only compounding the misery for Stanley.

This win was just what Wrexham needed; a quality performance and plenty of goals, hopefully generating momentum for the promotion run-in.

The result was absolutely not what Accrington boss John Coleman needed though.

Stanley came into Saturday’s game with just four wins in the previous 16 games.

Defeats to Crawley Town and Walsall left Coleman under pressure and a heavy defeat at Wrexham has now seen him lose his job.

Accrington have this morning confirmed that Coleman and his long-time assistant Jimmy Bell have both been sacked.

This was Coleman’s second spell in charge of Accrington, racking up more than 1000 games in charge of the club across two spells.

Coleman is a club hero but with play-off hopes now drifting away, Accrington have pulled the trigger.

This decision may actually impact one Wrexham-owned player as Jake Bickerstaff now finds himself in a tricky spot.

Coleman pounced to sign Bickerstaff on loan from Wrexham before the January deadline with a view to giving him valuable first-team experience.

Bickerstaff has now seen Coleman lose his job and the striker must now attempt to impress another manager before returning to Wrexham this summer.
