Former Wrexham striker Lee Trundle believes the influence of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds can be ‘massive’ for Wrexham moving forward.

It’s been a fairytale three years since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds outlined their dreams of taking over at Wrexham.

The Reds have since been transformed on and off the pitch with ticket sales, revenue, shirt sales and a global fanbase all skyrocketing.

Those wins off the pitch have also been supplemented by success on the field with the National League title secured last season.

Now, Phil Parkinson is threatening to lead Wrexham to consecutive promotions as Wrexham find themselves sat in third position by two points.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the backing of their Hollywood owners who have big ambitions of leading the Welsh side into the Premier League one day.

Whilst that aim is long-term, former Wrexham striker Lee Trundle believes the duo can be massive in helping them skyrocket up the pyramid.

Lee Trundle praises the work that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have done

One of the greatest strikers in the history of the EFL, Trundle spent two years at Wrexham between 2001 and 2003, scoring 27 goals in 93 appearances.

During his time at the Racecourse Ground, he became a cult hero for the outrageous pieces of skill he could pull off on a football pitch and he’s now spoken highly about the impact McElhenney and Reynolds have had.

Speaking on the Fearless In Devotion podcast, he said: “I think they can be massive. I think as the football club grows and goes up the leagues, I think the fanbase will. The way Ryan and Rob do things, especially on the social media side, I think they’re excellent on that to engage with the fans.

“But the way they feel about the club as well you get a feeling that they’re coming in, they’re not just someone who has put money in to get a return and they don’t care what happens to the football club. You can genuinely see that they care about it and the way they are with the players, the rapport they’ve got with the fans. You know I think it’s brilliant and the two of them have done amazing.”

More than just football club owners

Many questioned their aims upon their arrival given their status as global superstars, but they’ve shown over the past few years how much they love the entire city and this is highlighted in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary.

McElhenney and Reynolds have a genuine love for the football club and that isn’t something that can be said for a lot of owners in the EFL.

Aside from boasting the financial muscle, their engagement with the players and supporters as well as on social media has been truly special.

If Wrexham are to continue having success, the above must continue and we’re pretty certain it will.
