Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has paid tribute to owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds for the progress the club is making, as they prepare to face Manchester United in their pre-season USA tour.

The Red Dragons are back in League Two for the first time since 2008, and have embarked on a high-profile tour thanks to McElhenney’s status in Philadelphia where they are set to play Manchester United, having already faced Chelsea.

The two actors are taking Wrexham to great heights, and have the ambition of eventually reaching the Premier League.

Speaking to The Leader, Parkinson claimed that the pair have had a huge impact on the club and the wider community in Wrexham.

“For the area, the positivity is incredible and the way that the success of the football club and the profile of the club has raised the spirits in Wrexham has been great to be a part of,” he stated.

“Long may that continue because a team which is winning lifts an area and obviously, more importantly, Rob and Ryan what they’re doing in terms of putting things in place for the structure of the club going forward is equally as important as winning games of football on a Saturday afternoon.

“We all want to be part of success, but also want to be part of building a football club, which is strong for many years to come.”

What are Wrexham’s aims this season?

Despite having not played in the EFL for 15 years, Wrexham are aiming for back-to-back promotions, having come up with an already strong squad, and are the odds-on favourites to reach League One.

They have been unexpectedly quiet in the transfer market, bringing in just one signing in Will Boyle, but the likes of Paul Mullin can continue their excellent performances from last season to help propel Wrexham up the table.

It remains to be seen what kind of progress Wrexham make in the next few years with regard to their Premier League dreams, but their profile has already risen dramatically under their owners since the takeover in 2021.
