Wrexham confirmed the signing of Lewis Brunt on Tuesday whilst several stars have now reacted to this news on Instagram.

Wrexham captured ball-playing defender Lewis Brunt on a permanent transfer from Leicester City on Tuesday.

A product of Aston Villa’s academy, the 23-year-old experienced his first real taste of senior football out on loan at Mansfield Town, earning promotion with the Stags before joining the Reds.

Mansfield attempted to make a permanent move for the player, although Nigel Clough admitted that their bid for the Englishman was rejected.

Brunt became Phil Parkinson’s second summer signing after goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and several stars have now taken to Instagram to react to this news.

The signing of Brunt left many feeling delighted – including Parkinson – who claimed it was an exceptional piece of business and he has a lot of room to develop.

That verdict translated across to Instagram, where Brunt uploaded the news after completing the transfer. He wrote: “A new chapter! Delighted to be here & can’t wait to get going!”

There were floods of responses to that post, with current Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers simply putting: “My bruvva🥰”.

Louie Barry – a player he grew up with in the Villa academy – responded: “👏👏”. Leicester City youngster Kasey McAteer then followed that by penning an emotional response: “Go well my brother, gonna miss you😢❤️.”

Fellow Leicester talent Ben Nelson also offered words of encouragement: “Go smash it mate ❤️.”

Lewis Brunt is a brilliant addition for Wrexham

Brunt earned promotion with Mansfield last term, finishing in third just behind Wrexham.

The talented defender played 34 times in the league and earned praise for his calmness in possession and ability to bring the ball out from defence.

Much like Max Cleworth, Brunt excels with the ball at his feet and when in the starting XI, he enables Wrexham to play from the back.

The signing of the former Leicester youngster is therefore a smart addition for Wrexham to make, as not only does he add depth to Parkinson’s defensive ranks, but he’s also an exciting prospect for the future.

It speaks volumes about Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds changing recruitment drive that the two signings through the door this summer are aged 23 and under.

It’s refreshing that Wrexham are now looking at some talented youngsters in the market, whereas before it was predominantly older players such as Steven Fletcher and James McClean.
