Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has praised the club’s international fans following their pre-season victory over Manchester United.
The Red Dragons are on a tour in the USA as a result of their raised profile following their promotion back to the Football League, and their owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have helped boost their popularity in the States.
Wrexham beat a United team comprised of academy players 3-1 in front of a sellout crowd at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.
Speaking after the game, Foster, who has played for both clubs, praised the 35,000 fans in the crowd, claiming that there was a large Wrexham presence despite playing against a huge club in Man United.
“The atmosphere was incredible today. There were 35,000 fans, a lot of Wrexham fans there honestly,” he stated.
“Listen, I know Man United are a massive deal, but there were a lot of Wrexham fans, it was nice to see.
“It was a good game.”
How has Wrexham’s USA tour gone so far?
Despite being heavily beaten by Chelsea, this tour has been an overall success for Wrexham, who will find their popularity increasing amongst USA based fans as a result, and the victory against United has given confidence to the squad.

However, a big blow for their preparations has been an injury to star striker Paul Mullin, who ruptured a lung following a clash with United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. He could be out for some time, and with the League Two season about to start, this is far from ideal for Phil Parkinson.
Wrexham face another game against Philadelphia Union’s reserve side before flying home, and this unusual pre-season tour has seemingly lifted the morale amongst the squad, ahead of what will be a demanding first campaign in the fourth division for over 15 years.
