Wrexham needed a hero in the race for promotion to League One and nobody will be at all surprised upon hearing that it’s Paul Mullin taking on that role.
Last season’s battle for promotion was probably enough stress for a lifetime in the minds of many Wrexham fans.
Even after racking up more than 100 points, Wrexham had to fear being pipped by Notts County.
That title race was not for the faint of heart and Wrexham supporters now have to do it all over again.
Wrexham head to Doncaster Rovers this evening, knowing that a win would open up a five-point gap to fourth-placed Milton Keynes Dons.
Wrexham would still have a game in hand too, so a victory in Yorkshire would go a long way to securing a spot in League One.
The go-to man right now is striker Paul Mullin, who fired Wrexham to promotion a year ago with 38 league goals.

Playmaker Stats have posted a table of the top players in March in terms of goals and assists across domestic action in English football.
Milton Keynes Dons ace Alex Gilbey and Lincoln City’s Joe Taylor racked up seven goal contributions in March.
Chelsea star Cole Palmer did the same, recording four goals and three assists last month.
Coventry City hitman Ellis Simms finished second on eight, and then comes Wrexham hero Mullin on nine.
Mullin’s seven goals and two assists made him the most productive player in English football in March, summing up his importance.
That a Wales-based player topped the English table will be of great delight to many Wrexham fans too, with the likes of Palmer and Simms left trailing behind Mullin.
Mullin must start
Phil Parkinson has some great attacking options at his disposal and recently went through a spell of tinkering with his front line.
Mullin and Ollie Palmer boast the best record of the combinations, with their National League rapport stepping up to League Two.
Steven Fletcher offers a veteran option in attack whilst January signing Jack Marriott knows where the net is after his time at higher levels.
Add in Sam Dalby and Wrexham have many fine options but one thing is for sure – Mullin need to start.
Injuries and form have been problems for Mullin at times this season but he is back to his best right now.
Parkinson may want to rotate Palmer at times but it should then be a case of choosing who partners Mullin rather than considering taking the Liverpudlian out of the side.
