Wrexham or the treble winners? Well they’re in the same bracket thanks to a recent achievement, which sees the Red Dragons equal Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City record.

If you’d told Wrexham supports five years ago that they’d be one of the most spoken-about clubs in world football, they’d have probably told you something we aren’t allowed to write on here.

But thanks to Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, the club have been propelled into the world of Hollywood, but have also severely improved as a side in the process.

So much so, that they’re now equalling records that English giants such as Manchester City have previously set.

Wrexham equal impressive Man City-held record

22 league games. That’s what it’s taken to match Pep Guardiola for Phil Parkinson.

With the win at Grimsby Town at the weekend, Wrexham matched Manchester City’s record of registering the most number of league wins, 22, in the calendar year of 2023.

A remarkable achievement for a side that wasn’t even in the football league until this season.

Parkinson on ‘great achievement’

Parkinson shared his thoughts on the achievement, explaining how he was delighted to be held in the same bracket as one of the very best.

He explained to BBC Sport Wales: “We’re very proud of that because we’re up against some very good teams across the pyramid of football.

“To be up there and talked about with names like Man City is a great achievement for everybody at the club. Like Man City will be saying when they saw that stat come out and how well they’ve done, it’s about what’s ahead.

“We know that we’ve done well to be up there and talked about with those names, but it’s about what is ahead and how do we go again and achieve even more.”

Hats off to Parkinson, the players and the owners for this remarkable achievement… but also – let’s go one better! More wins will be necessary to keep up with the Cityzens. Let’s see who comes out on top by the end of the campaign.
