Paul Mullin was at his very best on Saturday afternoon as Grimsby Town and the Wrexham striker is relishing an exciting conclusion to the League Two season.
Wrexham simply had to win on Saturday but few expected such a dominant performance against Grimsby Town.
Wrexham were 3-0 up by half time, blowing Grimsby away thanks to a brace from Andy Cannon and a superb volley from Paul Mullin.
Mullin had played a key role in Cannon’s second goal, producing some sensational footwork to get Wrexham going on the counter-attack.
Cannon’s finish was fantastic too but Mullin’s quick feet were akin to something we would see from Lionel Messi.
Mullin then got himself on the scoresheet too, firing home a left-footed volley on the turn to effectively kill the game off before the half-time whistle even sounded.
Grimsby pulled one back in the second-half but it was a mere consolation as Wrexham secured a 3-1 victory and another step towards promotion to League One.
Paul Mullin on Wrexham promotion push
Mullin has now spoken to BBC Sport after helping demolish Grimsby on Saturday.
Mullin is inching ever close to finding his 100th goal for Wrexham but he doesn’t seem too fussed about the personal accolade.
Instead, Mullin would happily go the rest of the season without scoring, as long as Wrexham secure promotion to League One in the end.
Mullin then looked ahead to Friday’s huge clash with League Two leaders Mansfield Town.
A win would leave Wrexham primed for a push at the League Two title and it promises to be a tight encounter at the STōK Cae Ras.

Mullin believes that there will be plenty of fight inside the Wrexham dressing room for the final stages of the season, embracing what will be a ‘really tough challenge’.
“If I didn’t score another goal and we went up then my job’s done. It will be a great achievement, but it’s not something I really think about,” said Mullin. “It will be lovely to get there as quickly as possible, but equally if I don’t get there at all but we keep winning every week then I’ll be happy.”
“They’re a brilliant side and have been brilliant all season. It’s up to us to go and give a really good account of ourselves and hopefully go and win the game. If we win every game we’ll be promoted. It’s not going to be simple as that, it’s going to be a really tough challenge. Everyone’s going to be up for the fight in our changing room and in other changing rooms also,” he added.
We are in the final stretch of the season now and Wrexham are in a fantastic position.
Yes, recent results against Harrogate Town and Tranmere Rovers were deflating, but that convincing win over Grimsby Town has reinvigorated everybody.
When Mullin looks around the Wrexham dressing room, he clearly sees a group of players who are ready and willing to go into battle with him.
The next few weeks will be tense and probably full of twists and turns, but Wrexham will always have a great chance whenever Mullin is leading the line.
