Phil Parkinson confirms another Wrexham injury problem ahead of facing Reading

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is weighing up changes to his side for the visit of Reading, but Harry Ashfield looks set to miss out.

Wrexham beat Norwich City 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, producing a fine display away at Carrow Road.

Phil Parkinson enjoyed a successful trip to Norfolk, but there is little time for Wrexham to celebrate.

Wrexham host Reading in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, and Parkinson will be tempted to rotate his squad.

Phil Parkinson confirms blow for Wrexham’s Harry Ashfield

This is the perfect chance for fringe Wrexham players to come in and make an impact.

Dan Scarr and Elliot Lee are primed to feature, but youngster Harry Ashfield will not be involved.

The homegrown Wrexham talent has sparked excitement with his cup displays, with Parkinson praising Ashfield after his display against Preston North End.

This cup clash against Reading would have been absolutely perfect for Ashfield, but he is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

Speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Parkinson confirmed that Ashfield picked up an ankle injury on Friday.

Parkinson stated that Ashfield’s injury came from a ‘nothing incident’, but he is now facing weeks out of action.

“Harry Ashfield got injured on Friday, a real nothing incident really,” said Parkinson.

“He’s damaged his ankle ligaments and faces a few weeks out,” he added.

Ashfield’s blow comes hot on the heels of Aaron James suffering a knee injury, meaning Wrexham will be without two homegrown talents against Reading.

A chance for Elliot Lee to step up

As mentioned earlier, this is the kind of game for Elliot Lee to come into the side after a real lack of Championship action.

Matty James and George Thomason could start, which leaves one spot for a real creative midfield player.

If given the choice of Ashfield or Lee, we would not have been surprised to see youngster Ashfield feature and continue his development.

Ashfield will not be available now, meaning Lee could be given the nod as the more attack-minded of Wrexham’s midfielders.

Lee has gone from being a key man at Wrexham to not even making the bench for league games, so he would surely relish the chance to start against Reading – especially as he scored against them at the STōK Cae Ras last season.
