Phil Parkinson confirms two ‘quite serious’ injury blows in the Wrexham squad

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed bad news over the injuries suffered by midfielders George Evans and James Jones.

We are reaching the final stages of the season and Wrexham need to call upon squad depth to try and secure promotion to League One.

Sadly, Phil Parkinson has been left with a real lack of midfield options.

George Evans managed 64 minutes against Sutton United but missed games against Notts County and Milton Keynes Dons.

James Jones picked up a late injury against Notts County too, meaning Parkinson had to go with a fairly unfamiliar midfield against the Dons.

Andy Cannon kept his place with Luke Young and James McClean joining him in the engine room as Elliot Lee was given a breather on the bench.

Parkinson would have been hoping to get Evans and Jones back soon, but that won’t be happening.

The Wrexham boss has told The Leader that both injuries look ‘quite serious’, raising fears that they may now miss the run-in.

Parkinson noted that Wrexham will now ‘have to address’ these two injuries, leaving some to feel that a free agent could be targeted outside of the transfer window.

“Both look quite serious unfortunately for us,” said Parkinson. “We have had set-backs in that department but that’s the way it goes and we will have to address that,” he added.

Parkinson saw Young turn in a typically solid performance against MK Dons whilst McClean got himself on the scoresheet.

Lee should benefit from a breather on Tuesday night and will be looking to kick on when he returns to the starting lineup.

This situation is far from ideal but Parkinson did see Jordan Davies make a return to the bench at MK Dons.

Davies provides another option in midfield whilst Thomas O’Connor will hopefully return soon to offer a potential holding option in the engine room.

Whether we see Evans and Jones again this season remains to be seen but Parkinson will now have to find some other solution in midfield – whether that’s internally or externally.
