Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson has opened up about Rob Lainton following the goalkeeper’s injury requiring recent surgery.

It has to be said that it has been a tough season when it comes to injuries for Wrexham, even if their form has been superb.

Under the management of Phil Parkinson, the Reds have had a terrific start to life in League Two following promotion from the National League.

With 10 wins from 20 games so far this season and them currently sitting in second place in the league, at the time of writing.

This has been done despite a revolving door of injuries at The Racecourse this season. The impact has been felt throughout the squad from Steven Fletcher to Arthur Okonkwo.

Now there is another injury which will see a club stalwart miss out for a prolonged period.

What has Phil Parkinson said about Rob Lainton?

Rob Lainton has been with Wrexham for five years following his signing after an initial loan period in 2018. He has gone on to make over 120 appearances for the Reds in that period, regularly being the number one.

The past few seasons have been tough for the keeper as he has suffered various injuries which have kept him out. This was covered in ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ and it was clear that it was weighing heavy on the shot-stopper.

Since his most recent recovery, Lainton has suffered another setback which has seen him out for a sustained period. This has seen him require surgery in the past week which Parkinson has been discussing with Leader Live.

On that, he said: “Rob had an operation and it was very successful. It’s been a very frustrating time for Rob. He’s seen three different specialists but we hope this will sort the problem although he is going to be out for four months.”

It must be said that Wrexham have plenty of goalkeeper options who have been signed to cover Lainton in the past. From Mark Howard to Ben Foster, the Reds have had their fair share of keepers. With that, it is in the back of everyone’s minds what could have been for Lainton if he had remained fit.

He was the undisputed number one for a period in the National League and is unfortunate to be missing out on League Two action.

Every fan will wish him a quick recovery and will be hopeful of seeing him between the sticks at The Racecourse once again.
