The runners and riders for the 2024-25 League One season have now been confirmed with Wrexham now aware of the competition.
Wrexham secured promotion in April, beating Forest Green Rovers in a thumping victory at the STōK Cae Ras.
The job was done with two games to spare, but Wrexham still finished the campaign with two victories and a big promotion party in Las Vegas.
That allowed Phil Parkinson and co to watch the rest of the promotion picture take take shape ahead of returning to League One.
Mansfield Town took the final automatic promotion spot from League Two, joining Stockport County and Wrexham in securing a straightforward passage to the third tier.
In terms of relegation, Carlisle United, Port Vale, Fleetwood Town and Cheltenham Town all dropped out of League One and will not be facing Wrexham next season.
Phil Parkinson faces Bolton Wanderers return
Saturday saw the League One play-off final take place with Bolton Wanderers taking on Oxford United.
The Trotters had smashed Oxford 5-0 in March and would have had real confidence of a result at Wembley.
Oxford ended up producing a superb performance with Josh Murphy scoring twice to secure promotion to League One.
Bolton miss out on promotion once again and that means a return for Wrexham boss Parkinson.
Parkinson became Bolton boss in 2016, leaving Bradford City for a move to the now-called Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Parkinson racked up 157 games in charge of Wanderers, managing them through one of the toughest periods in the club’s history.
Amid major financial woes, Parkinson attempted to keep Bolton in the Championship but ended up moving on in August 2019, months after relegation.
Bolton will still have a place in Parkinson’s heart having spent three years at the club and their failure to win promotion means Wrexham will be heading to take on Wanderers next season.
Wrexham fans will certainly travel in numbers for that game and you can be sure that Parkinson will get a decent reception from Bolton supporters too.
Crawley Town follow Wrexham into League One
The final spot in League One has also been decided with the League Two play-off final taking place on Sunday afternoon.
Crewe Alexandra faced Crawley Town at Wembley as sixth place met seventh for a spot in League One.
Crawley ended up on the winning side, producing an impressive display to secure a 2-0 victory and follow Wrexham into League One.
Wrexham beat Crawley twice this past season, winning 1-0 away from home in October before smashing them 4-1 at the STōK Cae Ras in April.
Scott Lindsey’s side play superb football but few could have expected them to be in the mix for promotion before the season started.
Now preparing for life in the third tier just like Wrexham, Crawley finish up the League One picture for next season with Wrexham now fully aware of the opponents next term.
