Fulham winger Harry Wilson has hailed the impact of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds since their Wrexham takeover.
Imagine being told even five years ago that Wrexham would become known all over the world thanks to a pair of Hollywood owners.
Most fans would have thought you had been drinking a few too many in The Turf.
Here we are though, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have been running Wrexham for more than three years now.
The club has grown exponentially both on and off the pitch, enjoying a simply remarkable rise in recent times.
That brings some differing views from neutrals as some love the Wrexham story and have enjoyed what McElhenney and Reynolds have done.
Others would love to see Wrexham fail and there will be more than a few fans out there who will be hoping that Wrexham don’t secure promotion to League One.
Harry Wilson on Wrexham owners
One man who falls on the side of loving what is happening at Wrexham is Harry Wilson.
The Fulham wide man was born in Wrexham and has been keeping an eye on the club for a while now.
Wilson may have been on the Liverpool books, become a Premier League regular at Fulham and a key man for Wales, but he hasn’t forgotten his Wrexham roots.
Speaking to Optus Sport, Wilson has been asked for his thoughts on Wrexham and the impact of both McElhenney and Reynolds.
Wilson noted that he couldn’t believe it when the takeover was being rumoured and neither could anybody he knew back home in Wrexham.
Now the Hollywood duo are on board, Wilson believes that they have done great work not just for Wrexham as a club but also as a city.
Wilson felt that Wrexham was becoming ‘run down’ and needed freshening up again, believing that McElhenney and Reynolds have really contributed to a feel-good factor returning.
“I feel like, when the news broke two, two-and-a-half years ago now, that Ryan Reynolds and Rob wanted to take over Wrexham, I think me and everyone back home couldn’t believe it and didn’t believe it until the news finally broke from the club itself,” said Wilson.
“I think since they’ve been the owners, what they’ve done for the club, what they’ve done for the town has been amazing. I think the town really needed a lift – I think it was getting a bit run down and wasn’t in the best shape, but I think them coming into the football club has really galvanised the place and not just the team and to see them get promoted back into the Football League after 15 years and to be in the top three of League Two now and looking like, hopefully, they’re going to go up another league, it’s amazing for the town and amazing for the fans,” he added.
Wilson may be living it up in the Premier League but he is a Wrexham boy at heart and he has clearly seen changes around the city to go along with the football revolution.
Wrexham may well be a League One club next season and none of this would have been possible – at least in such a short space of time – without the takeover.
That the city as a whole is now thriving is testament to the work McElhenney and Reynolds have done alongside their commitment to the community, and long may that continue.
