Wrexham have had a difficult run of games in recent weeks, but came through unbeaten having faced three top sides.

Phil Parkinson’s side faced Crawley, Mansfield and Crewe Alexandra, and were down to ten men in two of these clashes.

Wrexham drew two and won one of these matches, having avoided defeat at Crewe thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Steven Fletcher, and with all three sides currently in the top eight places in the table, they deserve credit for handling such a tough run well.

Ollie Palmer praises Wrexham teammates

Striker Ollie Palmer had a big part to play in this run, having scored the winner in the away game at Crawley, and he has now praised his teammates for the resilience they have shown during the last few weeks.

“We played against three teams in the play-offs and two of them with 10 men,” Palmer told The Leader.

“Three games in seven days and it was a great win at Crawley on tired legs. It was hard-fought against Crewe and it was a hard-fought against Mansfield so I am really pleased.

“It was a hard seven days, I felt shattered out there against Crawley and I know the rest of the lads did as well, but it was good to finish off with three points, everyone worked really hard.”

A first League Two campaign was never going to be easy for Wrexham, but after 12 games they find themselves seventh in the table, and are just four points behind leaders Notts County.

Wrexham were pre-season favourites for promotion after coming up, with the financial backing of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney expected to give Parkinson the tools to eventually come up again, but there is still a long way to go in the season.

Making the step up from the National League requires both quality and a strong mentality at the club, and the current squad have done well to handle the increased pressure on the side against tougher opposition than they faced last season.
