Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are the figureheads at Wrexham but they appear to have landed a huge coup behind the scenes.

Wrexham have been thriving on and off the pitch throughout the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.

Back-to-back promotions mean Wrexham are now in League One – and second in the table too.

Having Hollywood owners certainly helps but Wrexham still have to get the job done on the pitch – and that has been the case under Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham’s growth off the pitch has been enormous too with the American fanbase only growing.

Welcome to Wrexham’ has been revelation and Wrexham have become one of the most talked-about clubs in the game.

Wrexham land former Inter Milan official

Wrexham will continue to evolve off the pitch and were hit with a major blow over the summer.

Chief executive Fleur Robinson left the club at the end of last season, returning to Burton Albion.

Wrexham landed American Michael Williamson as a replacement and have now brought another new face into the mix.

New York Times reporter Tariq Panja now claims that Wrexham have appointed Rob Faulkner as ‘head of business and communications’.

Panja adds that it would have been difficult to imagine Faulkner joining Wrexham just a few years ago.

With that in mind, let’s dig into Faulkner’s career and see why this is such a huge appointment for Wrexham…

Who is Rob Faulkner?

Faulkner has enjoyed a long career in communications.

The motor industry was where Faulkner started, working for Yamaha and then Toyota before moving into football.

Faulker became Head of Communications at UEFA in 2001 and spent 12 years in the organisation, moving up to Head of Media Relations and Corporate PR in 2010.

Faulkner moved on to Leidar, where he worked alongside UEFA, before a big move to Italy with Inter Milan in 2015.

Serving as Chief Communications and Chief Marketing Officer during his time with the Serie A giants, Faulkner crossed paths with the aforementioned Williamson.

Williamson served as Corporate Director and Chief Strategy Officer during Faulkner’s time at the club, so the pair know each other well and are pictured together above.

That connection may be the driving factor behind Faulkner joining the Wrexham project and the pair will be looking to help drive Wrexham forward off the pitch.

Faulkner left Inter in 2019, becoming Head of Communications for European Athletics and then Director of Communications and Marketing for the European Club Association in 2022.

Now heading to Wrexham, Faulkner represents a major addition to the Wrexham setup and his extensive CV at the top of the game explains why he is viewed as such a coup.
