Wrexham’s Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have both done wonders for the club since they bought the club in 2020, but their busy careers can occasionally impact their ability to follow the team.

Both American superstars have invested well into the club and the local community, and both have taken a genuine interest in the club, with the pair regularly seen at the Racecourse Ground supporting the team.

However, Ryan Reynolds was absent for Wrexham’s 3-3 draw with Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, as he attended an NFL game in New York, and was seen with pop singer Taylor Swift.

Rob McElhenney mocks Ryan Reynolds

McElhenney has now mocked Reynolds after he was pictured with the singer, as Reynolds appeared to look gloomy with everyone around him jubilant.

The actor teased Reynolds, hinting that his miserable face may have stemmed from the fact that he would have rather been watching Wrexham instead of American Football.

Taking to his X account, McElhenney posted the picture, with the caption “TMW (that moment when) you realize she meant “American” football,” hinting that Swift may have played a part in his decision to ditch League Two football for NFL at the weekend.

Whilst the positive impact Reynolds and McElhenney have had at Wrexham is undeniable, there may be some concern among fans about celebrity appearances at games, with this weekend’s events perhaps indicating that Taylor Swift could be set to appear at a League Two clash at some point.

One big reason behind the popularity of the pair at Wrexham has been their clear passion for the club and the community when they began their ownership. They both made an effort to learn about the culture and history of the English football pyramid and the club, and helped Wrexham achieve promotion back to the Football League.

Although celebrities may help boost Wrexham’s profile further, with the pair already boosting their popularity in the United States, lifelong fans of the club may be less eager to see Hollywood stars appearing around the club if they do not show the same respect to their history as the owners did when they first appeared.
