Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has celebrated on social media after an award-winning night for ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
The arrival of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has made Wrexham headline news over the last couple of years.
All eyes are on this ‘Hollywood’ project and it’s not just a case of tracking on-field success, such as last season’s promotion.
The FX documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has put more eyes on Wrexham than ever before, allowing an inside look as McElhenney and Reynolds work together to take the club forward.
Rob McElhenney celebrates ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ success
That series has clearly been a huge success, but it has now been recognised with a key award.
Sunday night saw the 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards ceremony with some big-name winners grabbing the headlines.
Oppenheimer, Spider-Man, Succession, The Bear, Black Mirror, RuPaul’s Drag Race… oh, and Welcome to Wrexham.
Up against 60 Minutes, The 1619 Project, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life and Being Mary Taylor Moore, Welcome to Wrexham took the award for ‘Outstanding Producer of Non-Fiction Television’.
That’s a pretty incredible achievement and McElhenney has now taken to social media to react.
McElhenney posted the winning graphic alongside Reynolds whilst stating that it’s a real honour to win the award.
McElhenney noted that it’s satisfying to tell the story of the people of Wrexham as well as the club, again showing that nod to the Wrexham community.
Season three of Welcome to Wrexham will come in April, meaning it will be released before the end of this season.
Let’s just hope there is another Wrexham promotion party to document in the very near future.
