Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney reacted to Wrexham’s first league win of season on Tuesday night which turned out to be an emphatic victory.
Wrexham had a difficult start to life in League Two following a fifteen-year absence. Last season’s National League winners lost the opening game of the season 5-3 to MK Dons before playing out a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon last weekend. However, those games were either side of an impressive win in the EFL Cup, as the Red Dragons knocked out League One side Wigan on penalties. Thankfully, Wrexham were able to take that positive momentum into Tuesday night’s game against Walsall and come out with the win.

How the match was won
Wrexham clinched their first league win of the season, beating Walsall 4-2 in an evening game at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night.
Manager Phil Parkinson made four changes to the side that drew against Wimbledon on Saturday, and was rewarded early on when new signing Will Boyle lofted an expertly weighted header from a Luke Young cross over the Wrexham goalkeeper.
Ollie Palmer doubled Wrexham’s lead soon after with an exquisite lob from distance to score his first goal of the season.
Chris Hussey hit back for Walsall but the home team’s two-goal advantage was restored in the second half thanks to a sublime turn and finish from Jake Bickerstaff.
Elliot Lee scored Wrexham’s fourth goal from the edge of the penalty area, meaning Anthony Forde’s own goal in injury time was nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.

Wrexham’s climb up the football pyramid has been supercharged thanks to the investment of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The American actors have proved to be incredibly dedicated and committed owners, and follow the team as closely as they possibly can.
Rob McElhenney shared his delight after the final whistle, posting on Twitter: “First league win!!! Congrats to all!!!!”
Ryan Reynolds said: “Looking very good under the lights in Wrexham tonight.”
Speaking after the match, Phil Parkinson said: “I’m very pleased. I thought it was a very good performance.
“We controlled long periods of the game, our passing was crisp, our movement was good and there was a nice balance about us.
“I felt it was a night when a lot of our key players stood up to the plate. It was important we stood up as a team and got our first league win of the season.
“It was a really good night for us, it was another cracking atmosphere here and the lads thrived on that.”
Wrexham now have another home fixture on the horizon, with Swindon Town visiting the Racecourse on Saturday.
