Wrexham’s Shaun Harvey has shared the incredible growth the club have made in terms of social media over the last few years.
Recent times at Wrexham have been unlike anything any supporter could have possibly imagined.
Stuck in the National League since 2008, Wrexham were going nowhere fast.
Optimism was hard to come by; even when Wrexham finished fourth in the 2018-19 season, it was followed up by finishing 19th.
Everything changed in February 2021 as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds completed their takeover of the club.
Now chasing promotion to League One, the last few years have been a complete whirlwind with Wrexham becoming global news.
The documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has played a major part in that, but Shaun Harvey has now detailed the scope of the rise…

Shaun Harvey shares Wrexham social media rise
One of the crucial moves made by McElhenney and Reynolds was to bring in Shaun Harvey.
An experienced operator in football, Harvey initially served as an advisor to the owners before joining the board of directors in December.
We often see Harvey as the voice of reason on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, offering invaluable experience alongside football newcomers McElhenney and Reynolds.
Harvey is currently away in Australia, speaking at SportNXT – which is described as being a ‘global thought leadership summit shaping the future of the sports industry’.
Harvey spoke on stage at the event, detailing the rise of Wrexham both on and off the pitch.
An image has now emerged from the event with Harvey showing the social media impact of the Wrexham takeover.
Harvey showed the rise in followers across various platforms; X, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Threads and YouTube.
Wrexham’s total number of followers across the platforms back in September 2020 was noted as being 152,000.
The total number now is a staggering 3,981,747 – so close to breaking the four million mark.
X followers have gone from 45,000 to 570,000, Instagram from 27,000 to 1.2million and TikTok – something Wrexham didn’t engage in previously – is now at nearly 1.5million followers.
These are ridiculous numbers and many clubs in the English football pyramid would probably be jealous of this kind of engagement.
The Wrexham ‘brand’ has grown astronomically over the last three years with the impact of McElhenney and Reynolds clear for all to see.
