Wrexham’s popularity has skyrocketed since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds tookover the club in 2021.

The Reds are only at the start of their journey under the two Hollywood superstars, but it feels like Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have been a part of the furniture for years.

From setting their stall out to create Wrexham into a global force and seeing success transpire onto the pitch, the Welsh side have seen their stock rise dramatically.

There’s been record ticket sales, an eye-catching shirt sponsorship deal with TikTok, and a surprise inclusion in the video game franchise FIFA – the first-ever club from the fifth tier to appear in the series.

The excitement swirling around the Racecourse Ground has been matched by performances on the pitch and although they narrowly missed out on promotion in the 2021/22 campaign, Phil Parkinson’s men achieved it in record-breaking style last term.

After reaching League Two for the first time since 2008, ESPN revealed that match-viewing figures increased by 858% as a direct result of showcasing Wrexham.

Understandably, their viewership has drastically improved and given the status of their Hollywood owners, a lot more people from the United States are now tuning in to watch the Reds, despite having ever heard of them before.

Wrexham are the 84th most-watched club in the United States

World Soccer Talk have created a list of the top 100 football teams that have the most fans based on their viewership on TV and streaming.

The Mexican and English top flights are the two clear-cut leaders in popularity in the United States, with the Premier League recently surpassing the Liga Mx as the most popular league in the US.

Given how many Americans are tuning in to watch English football, it is no surprise to see the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United make the top 10.

Not far behind are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur while Wrexham, despite having just a few games on TV, are ranked 84th on the list.

That puts them above the likes of New York Red Bulls, Orlando City and Austin FC, who are all established sports teams in the MLS.

Wrexham are growing in popularity

The support being shown towards Wrexham is being increased globally and despite playing in the fourth tier of English football, they are still being watched by so many people in the United States.

Not only that, but the number of people watching them in the stands has skyrocketed. In League Two this term, only Bradford City and Notts County are averaging bigger home crowds than the Reds (10,575).

With plans in place to increase the capacity of their stadium to match the fresh demand for tickets, there is only one direction that Wrexham are heading towards and that is up.

Wrexham host Bradford at the Racecourse Ground tomorrow as they aim to win for the first time in four matches.
