Wrexham have given Hanley Town some ‘assurances’ ahead of their pre-season friendly before jetting off to the United States.

The bricks of Wrexham’s plans this summer are beginning to fall into place.

A pre-season tour of the United States for the second year running was announced a few months back as Phil Parkinson’s men take on Premier League sides Bournemouth and Chelsea.

That has since been followed by an announcement that the Reds will kick off their pre-season schedule on Saturday, July 13th with a trip to Hanley Town, a side currently in the Northern Premier League Division One West division.

The visitors have been allocated 1,000 tickets for the match, in what promises to be an ideal warm-up for the first-team squad ahead of a gruelling test in the US heat.

Wrexham likely to go full strength vs Hanley Town

Supporters of both sides will want Wrexham to take this seriously as the Welsh outfit coming to town will no doubt generate excitement.

That is because it’s not every day a team owned by a Hollywood duo play against a side in the eighth tier of English football, five promotions away from the Reds in League One.

Hanley will want to see Parkinson put out a full-strength side, or at least give minutes to some of their best players, including new signing Arthur Okonkwo, goal machine Paul Mullin and midfield maestro Elliot Lee.

According to the Rob Ryan Red X account, that is an ‘assurance’ Hanley have been given ahead of the fixture next month, meaning supporters will get to see Mullin take to the field at Potteries Park.

Phil Parkinson will want a few more signings through the door before then

Wrexham announced the permanent signing of Okonkwo last week, batting off interest from multiple Championship clubs to land his signature.

The 22-year-old said there wasn’t any other place he’d rather be and he enjoyed his time that much in 2023/24, he wanted to join permanently ahead of League One.

After what felt like a long period where nothing was happening in the market, the signing of Okonkwo has raised excitement levels for the rest of the window.

For Parkinson and the recruitment team, they’ll be looking to bring a few more faces through the door before that trip to Hanley and their tour of the United States.

Wrexham don’t need to get their business done early – as seen last year – however, embedding a few new signings on the pre-season tour could give them a head start over their rivals.

It’s certainly an exciting time for fans and following the news of Okonkwo’s arrival, they’ll be counting the days till the start of the new season.
